MyJPJ 2.0 is a concept project I’ve undertaken to revise the design of an existing Malaysian government mobile application, specifically the MyJPJ app. As a user, I personally found its current aesthetic outdated and information presented in a less organized manner. My goal with this redesign is to transform partial key screens of MyJPJ into a more modern, approachable, and visually clear interface, where information is distinctly defined. I particularly focused on refining the “renew license” flow to achieve a more seamless and intuitive experience.

Problem Statement
For Clarity & Approachability
Through personal use of the current MyJPJ mobile app, I’ve observed that while it provides essential services, its overall aesthetic often feels dated and inconsistent with current design standards. Key information can appear cluttered, lacking a clear visual hierarchy, which can make the app less approachable and efficient for users seeking specific details like license status, branch information, or vehicle plates. MyJPJ Revamp addresses these pain points by proposing a comprehensive redesign that prioritizes a modern look, intuitive information display, and a more user-friendly experience.

Design Process Overview
Crafting Clarity
Empathize
I immersed myself in the existing MyJPJ app, noting specific pain points related to its aesthetic and how information was presented, with particular attention to the renew license flow.
Define
I pinpointed the core design challenges in the current interface, articulating clear objectives for creating a more modern, approachable, and visually clear experience.
Ideate
I explored various design solutions to refresh the overall UI, sketching out concepts for a more engaging and intuitive aesthetic, focusing on the renew license flow.
Prototype
I built interactive prototypes to visualize and test these redesigned key screens and the renewed license flow, ensuring clarity, approachability, and ease of information access.
Testing
I conducted usability testing to gather feedback on the aesthetic appeal, intuitiveness, and overall clarity of the redesigned key screens and the renewed license flow compared to the original.
Emphatize & Define
Unpacking the Existing Interface
My empathy phase involved a deep dive into the current MyJPJ mobile application. As a user, I carefully explored its interface, paying close attention to how important public information, like driving license details and vehicle data, was shown. I observed its outdated look and a clear lack of visual order, making key details hard to spot right away. This led me to pinpoint core design challenges, particularly within the ‘renew license’ flow. My project focuses on showcasing key redesigned screens that aim to transform this official-looking interface into one that feels friendly and where essential civic information is instantly clear.
Home Page
Cluttered & Disorganized
The MyJPJ homepage presents a visually overwhelming experience with too many icons and options crammed together, making it difficult for users to quickly find the service they need.

Account Renewal Page
Dense Form
The license renewal page is presented as a long, dense form with small text and insufficient visual breaks, making the scanning process less quick and requires more time to comprehend.

Which leads to a question...
How might we redesign key screens of the MyJPJ mobile app to create a more modern, approachable, and visually clear user experience, where essential information is distinctly defined, enhancing user efficiency and overall satisfaction, especially within the "renew license" flow?
Ideate
Architecting a Clearer Digital Path
In the ideation phase, I focused on translating the defined design problems into actionable solutions, with emphasis on optimizing the visual aesthetic and information hierarchy, specifically for the “renew license” flow. My primary goal was to create a modern visual language and intuitive display patterns that felt approachable and made information stand out. I explored various approaches to refresh the UI and simplify complex data presentations. This involved sketching various screen aesthetics, and developing initial wireframes to visualize refined layouts for this particular process.

App Showcase
MyJPJ 2.0 in Action
The interactive prototype for MyJPJ 2.0 provides a tangible feel for the redesigned user experience. It showcases the new visual design, streamlined interactions, and overall flow specifically for the “renew license” process, allowing exploration of the enhanced aesthetic and clearer information display.

User Testing
Room for Growth
“While the new look for individual sections is excellent, ensuring a completely consistent visual language and interaction style across all areas of the app, even those not part of this redesign, would make the whole app feel more cohesive.”
“The steps in the renewal process are straightforward, but on pages with a lot of detail, like payment summaries, a bit more visual grouping or varied text sizes could make scanning large blocks of information even quicker.”
“The redesigned homepage and license detail page are much cleaner, which is great. I wonder if there could be even more subtle visual cues or dynamic elements to guide my eye faster to the most critical information, especially on busy screens.”
